Sean @ Twisted Fish – Tech LDN Apprentice of the Month

Sean @ Twisted Fish – Tech LDN Apprentice of the Month

We are happy to announce that the winner of Tech LDN Apprentice of the Month is Sean @ Twisted Fish!

Twisted Fish are specialists in IT infrastructure and cyber security. They operate IT support helpdesks and infrastructure projects for large corporates and small to medium businesses nationwide.

LDN Apprenticeships highlights a clear message of what makes an AWESOME Apprentice; they must show energy, enthusiasm, willingness to learn, ability to take feedback and propensity to take action (EEWAP).

Sean was nominated by his Skills Coach – Aziz, and the feedback was provided by Sean’s line-manager and Senior Technical Support Engineer at Twisted Fish – Enda Hehir.

You can read the full nomination below!

Energy

Sean has shown the level of energy and interest that is needed to keep up with a very busy IT support desk. Due to the nature of our business, we are constantly on the phone with clients, so being positive in interactions with our client base is very important. He has also worked on internal projects setting up new machines and desk setups for new starters, and has been instructing the new people on how their setup works. We have had nothing but hugely positive feedback from managers about his attitude and professionalism.

Enthusiasm

Sean quickly showed a level of willingness to learn and succeed in this new challenging role. He is always asking questions, always wanting to push himself out of his comfort zone to see if he is able to take the next task on. IT is a vast world and can be very overwhelming to a new person coming in with no experience, but he has not shied away from any challenge put in front of him. Because of his pushing, Sean is actually going to be working on the live 1st line Helpdesk come the start of January.

Willingness To Learn

When not on an assigned task, Sean is always studying, be that internal systems he will use in his role as a 1st line Support engineer, or Microsoft subjects for his LDN coursework or further exams he is looking to take. When being instructed on various fixes for our clients issues, he is always attentive, takes notes, and asks questions if required. I know that if Sean has been taught a subject, there is no need for repeated explanations, as he has taken on board the information the first time. This is vital in our line of work, as this directly impacts his effectiveness when dealing with clients directly.

Ability To Take Feedback

We have had several employee reviews with Sean since starting with us and each time I have seen a jump in his confidence with the role he is being asked to train for. We have spoken about what courses and exams he will look at taking in 2020 to help move himself, and our business forward, and he is taking this all on board. He also questions if he can do anything differently, or better, which shows a level of self-reflection we find in our best team members.

Propensity To Take Action

Sean started with Twisted Fish with two other apprentices, but quickly showed the level of “wanting” that is needed to exceed in this company. He has been heavily involved with our move from our new office back to our old premises. He took on tasks with our Senior Technical Lead to deliver this project with no fear.

To expand on the above, Sean was tasked with assisting the Senior Technical Lead to plan and execute the move of 20 staff member to our newly refurbished office. No task was too small for him to be involved with, from moving desks and equipment, to working and planning out the networking for each user’s desk. This was the first time he was ever involved in a project like this, but was a pleasure to work with. He had every desk ready for the staff member to just plug in and work, with no issues reported. He was able to work unsupervised but was not afraid to ask when the work became out of his knowledge base. To say that our Technical Lead was very impressed is an understatement (whom is VERY hard to impress).

We recently had a blind vote for our end of year party on the person who had made the biggest impact of the year. Though Sean came second in this list, he only lost due to the fact he has not worked here all year!

Congratulations Sean!

Frankie @ Empiric Solutions – Tech LDN Apprentice of the Month

We are happy to announce that the winner of Tech LDN Apprentice of the Month is Frankie @ Empiric Soloutions!

Empiric soloutions are a specialist technology recruitment agency working in data, digital, cloud and security across all industries internationally!

LDN Apprenticeships highlights a clear message of what makes an AWESOME Apprentice; they must show energy, enthusiasm, willingness to learn, ability to take feedback and propensity to take action (EEWAP).

Frankie was nominated by his Skills Coach – Aziz, and the feedback was provided by Frankie’s line-manager and Head of Systems Director at Empiric – David Laubscher.

You can read the full nomination below!

Energy

Since Frankie has been with us he has taken on everything we have thrown at him with a smile. No task is too daunting he has integrated well with both the front and back office teams and has quickly become the go to person  for the staff. I often hear his name being called out to go assist other employees.

Enthusiasm

Frankie looks after all of our first line support for all of our sites both locally and abroad. He has rapidly gained a good understanding of the structure of the business and how it runs, this allows him to prioritise and manage his own work load which he completes with minimal fuss.

Willingness To Learn

While our environment is not typical for an IT department he has been able to learn the ins and the outs quite quickly to best serve the employees. He is also eager to learn things  that are outside of his area of work  so that he is ready to progress when the time comes.

Ability To Take Feedback

One of Frankie’s best traits is his ability to understand why it is he has gone wrong when I have to correct him,  which is few and far between sometimes I do not have the time to fully explain the reasons and he will go away and do further research himself to get a fuller understanding.

Propensity To Take Action

As Frankie has gotten used to the environment he has come in to his own and now actively seeks out ways to improve the environment after being a little shy to take ownership in the early stages of his time with us.

I gave Frankie the project of rebuilding our F1 racing simulator which he is well on the path of doing.  Every day he has a few employees keenly asking him for the progress of the project as they all want to have a go in the new car.

He is an asset to our business full stop!

Congratulations Frankie!

We are happy to announce that the winner of Tech LDN August Apprentice of the Month is Joel @ Challow!

LDN Apprenticeships highlights a clear message of what makes an AWESOME Apprentice; they must show energy, enthusiasm, willingness to learn, ability to take feedback and propensity to take action (EEWAP).

Joel was nominated by his Learning Development Specialist – Aziz, and the feedback was provided by Joel’s line-manager at Challow – Theresa Chandler.

You can read the full nomination below!

Energy

Joel consistently follows through every task set to him, without cutting corners and with a degree of completion that is far beyond his years and can be trusted to bring it to completion

Enthusiasm

Whatever role Joel is placed in whether it is working on site with clients or support calls he approaches it with the same dedication and attention.

Willingness To Learn

Joel has been given a wide variety of learning opportunities, he is attentive, engaged and takes notes where he feels he will need to refer. Crucially in our game where he finds himself out of his depth he has the good sense to stop.

Ability To Take Feedback

Where the inevitable transition to work adjustments have arisen Joel has demonstrated a clear listening attitude together with an ability to integrate any advice into his behaviour rapidly.

Propensity To Take Action

Having given Joel several areas of responsibility it is gratifying to see him continually demonstrating that he does not need to be tasked to revert to work in those areas.

Joel was present on site with one other engineer when the entire site had to be reconfigured due to another supplier’s error. This was a massive undertaking with a short timescale that was far beyond the simple learning experience we intended when he went to site. Not only did he pitch in without question or comment but he stayed late we received several unprompted comments about his poise and confidence on site from the end users who were aware of what he was tasked with achieving. He was so impressive we were able to leave him onsite the following day to finish the implementation on his own.

Congratulations Joel!

We are happy to announce that the winner of Tech LDN Apprentice of the Month is Shea @ Cobolt Recruitment!

Cobolt Recruitment is a leading recruiter in the finance and property sector. Since joining the team last October, it has been a delight to watch Software Developer Technician Apprentice Shea grow in confidence whilst developing his tech skills.

LDN Apprenticeships highlights a clear message of what makes an AWESOME Apprentice; they must show energy, enthusiasm, willingness to learn, ability to take feedback and propensity to take action (EEWAP).

Shea was nominated by his Learning Development Specialist – Kevin, and the feedback was provided by Shea’s line-manager and Global Operations Director at Cobolt Recruitment – Sara Burton

You can read the full nomination below!

Energy

Shea is an energetic member of the team which he needs to be working in the salesfloor. He is always smiling no matter how tricky the problem!

Enthusiasm

Shea is very enthusiastic about our system and that is beginning to rub off on the sales team who aren’t always so enthusiastic about it! He is always positive when a problem needs to be solved, that there is a solution out there somewhere!

Willingness To Learn

Shea has had to learn in this role, as we push the configuration further, he needs to be able to do more and more advanced things with it. He has taken the lead in an internal task force team and also learnt how to run workshop sessions.

Ability To Take Feedback

One of Shea’s biggest strengths is his willingness to take feedback, not least from the system when “computer says no”. He has been able to take on more responsibility for his own cases, learning how to work effectively with 3rd parties now following feedback on previous cases. He is currently working on his skills on training others which involves taking on board lots of feedback. He never gets down hearted about feedback and always looks at it positively. He’s had plenty of positive feedback too which he is obviously pleased to get – this has come in the form of 2 “backbone” team member of the month in the last 6 months, as well as individual emails thanking him for his work on particular projects.

Propensity To Take Action

Shea is not one to watch the world go by, and so is always making and updating to do lists. He doesn’t settle for an “alright” job but keeps going until it is perfect.

Congratulations Shea!

We are happy to announce that the winner of Tech LDN June Apprentice of the Month is Callum @ Renew Party!

The Renew Party is a relatively new political party set up to provide an alternative for moderate voters within the UK. Having joined the team just a few months ago and with his completion date in October, Callum had to learn a lot about the role in a short space of time. Something he’s been able to do with great success!

LDN Apprenticeships highlights a clear message of what makes an AWESOME Apprentice; they must show energy, enthusiasm, willingness to learn, ability to take feedback and propensity to take action (EEWAP).

Callum was nominated by his Learning Development Specialist – Tina, and the feedback was provided by Callum’s line-manager and Head of Operations at The Renew Party – David Britten.

You can read the full nomination below!

Energy

Despite his political inexperience, Callum has thrown himself into all manner of tasks at Renew. Since the organisation is a relatively young start-up, there are great opportunities to get involved in a number of roles, but that requires a willingness to do so. Not only has Callum been a consistent and strong performer in his role as Digital Marketing Officer, but he has also contributed more than his fair share of ideas. For example, he helped Renew to fine-tune its social media strategy with a number of innovations, such as improved video content attached to social media posts. He always comes to work with a can-do attitude and doesn’t give up when times are hard.

Enthusiasm

Going beyond the call of duty, Callum has explored the political world and current affairs, even though his role does not necessarily call for it. He has engaged thoroughly with the causes and implications of Brexit and political stratification, allowing this new-found knowledge to inform his recommendations for the party’s communications strategy. He has been a great help to Renew’s Communications team, in particular, showing ample desire to get involved with digital strategy. He also played a large role in the redesign of Renew’s website, streamlining our home page to deliver increased membership sign-ups.

Willingness To Learn

Callum is a responsive and good-natured employee, which makes him an excellent learner. For example, in team meetings, he is not afraid to listen and respond in kind to the ideas of others, whether those are concerned with the party’s membership drive or electoral strategy. He has worked well with the Head of Operations and Communications team because he is willing to absorb the knowledge and experience of others. This has had a positive impact on the office atmosphere and morale of the team.

Ability To Take Feedback

Callum’s humility and ability to laugh at himself makes him a receptive and willing learner. His vast potential as a Digital Marketing Office will undoubtedly be realised if he keeps this attitude up; even the office’s most experienced members have been impressed at his diplomatic and mature approach to personal growth.

Propensity To Take Action

When Callum joined us, we were in desperate need of a Digital Marketing Officer. Callum assumed that mantle impressively. Not only did he help produce campaign literature for the European elections, but he also revolutionised our social media strategy by helping to implement a coherent schedule and new designs for our image posts. The gusto with which Callum took it upon himself to produce these excellent efforts was commendable, and directly led to an increase in Renew’s online engagements.

Congratulations Callum!

We’re happy to announce that the winner of Tech LDN June Apprentice of the Month is My’a Douglas @ Yoobic!

Yoobic helps retailers optimize their stores, operations, and teams to increase conversions. My’a is currently one of three LDN Apprentices atYoobic who exceed company expectations on a day-to-day basis. My’a’s attitude within the workplace is a true reflection of the values LDN Apprenticeships support.

LDN Apprenticeships highlights a clear message of what makes an AWESOME Apprentice; they must show energy, enthusiasm, willingness to learn, ability to take feedback and propensity to take action (EEWAP). Read My’a’s nomination below:

Energy: My’a comes into work every day with a smile on her face and is always keen to get stuck in with her daily tasks. She quite clearly lifts the spirits of other team members with her cheerful temperament, which is really nice to see.

Enthusiasm:
In the world of QA testing, certain tasks can become quite tedious at times due to the repetitive nature of activity. With My’a, however, she is always enthused to get going with the work, no matter how dull the task may appear to be.

Willingness To Learn: There’s lots to learn within the QA domain, whether that’s new tools, technologies or techniques. My’a frequently asks questions to get a better understanding of how things work and what skills / new techniques may improve her practice. I can see she is regularly reading documentation on the tools we use and watching various YouTube tutorials about QA / Development technologies, which will no doubt help her achieve her goals during her apprenticeship.

Ability To Take Feedback: When I conduct the monthly reviews I give each of the apprentices feedback that includes areas for improvement. My’a always takes the feedback positively and on most occasions comes to me for further details on how she can improve, taking note of steps to be taken until the next review.

Propensity To Take Action: Every day in the QA team there’s a lot of tasks to carry out (sometimes too many!). As the QA lead, I am usually juggling many tasks at once and the apprentices can see / appreciate this. I can the sense that My’a understands that I’m very busy and knows that I cannot always assist the team with their work. She will always take matters into her own hands and shows a great level of initiative, which is extremely helpful for me when I don’t always have time to assist in certain tasks.

I really am grateful to have My’a in my team and not only is she a great asset to the team in terms of the work she contributes, but she’s a great person and I really believe she has a bright future ahead of her.

Congratulations My’a!
