My’a @ Yoobic – Tech LDN Apprentice of the Month
We’re happy to announce that the winner of Tech LDN June Apprentice of the Month is My’a Douglas @ Yoobic!
Yoobic helps retailers optimize their stores, operations, and teams to increase conversions. My’a is currently one of three LDN Apprentices atYoobic who exceed company expectations on a day-to-day basis. My’a’s attitude within the workplace is a true reflection of the values LDN Apprenticeships support.
LDN Apprenticeships highlights a clear message of what makes an AWESOME Apprentice; they must show energy, enthusiasm, willingness to learn, ability to take feedback and propensity to take action (EEWAP). Read My’a’s nomination below:
Energy: My’a comes into work every day with a smile on her face and is always keen to get stuck in with her daily tasks. She quite clearly lifts the spirits of other team members with her cheerful temperament, which is really nice to see.
Enthusiasm: In the world of QA testing, certain tasks can become quite tedious at times due to the repetitive nature of activity. With My’a, however, she is always enthused to get going with the work, no matter how dull the task may appear to be.
Willingness To Learn: There’s lots to learn within the QA domain, whether that’s new tools, technologies or techniques. My’a frequently asks questions to get a better understanding of how things work and what skills / new techniques may improve her practice. I can see she is regularly reading documentation on the tools we use and watching various YouTube tutorials about QA / Development technologies, which will no doubt help her achieve her goals during her apprenticeship.
Ability To Take Feedback: When I conduct the monthly reviews I give each of the apprentices feedback that includes areas for improvement. My’a always takes the feedback positively and on most occasions comes to me for further details on how she can improve, taking note of steps to be taken until the next review.
Propensity To Take Action: Every day in the QA team there’s a lot of tasks to carry out (sometimes too many!). As the QA lead, I am usually juggling many tasks at once and the apprentices can see / appreciate this. I can the sense that My’a understands that I’m very busy and knows that I cannot always assist the team with their work. She will always take matters into her own hands and shows a great level of initiative, which is extremely helpful for me when I don’t always have time to assist in certain tasks.
I really am grateful to have My’a in my team and not only is she a great asset to the team in terms of the work she contributes, but she’s a great person and I really believe she has a bright future ahead of her.
