Case Study: Limia @ Doccla

As one of the most popular courses, our Level 3 Business Administrator programme continues to be a huge success for apprentices at the beginning of their careers.

Recently starting as a Clinical Systems Administrator is LDN Business Administrator Apprentice Limia Aburunnat!

As part of the latest instalment in our case study series, we caught up with Limia and David over at Doccla to talk about their experience with LDN Apprenticeships.

Limia joins our alumni of shining stars and 50% of LDN Business Administrator Apprentices passing the programme with a distinction, here’s what Limia and David had to say about the journey leading to her incredible result.

What made you decide to apply for the role with Doccla as part of the Business Admin apprenticeship?

Limia: I love learning and wanted to be able to be in an environment where I could learn about the topic within Business Administration, whilst simultaneously being able to progress my skills and get a start in my career. Before applying, I was familiar with LDN accelerating people's careers. Researching Doccla and the work they do, it felt right to put my skills in this workplace and progress here.

What inspired you to recruit Limia via the Business Admin apprenticeship with LDN?

David: I had previously worked with LDN, so I was aware of the process. I am a firm believer in the apprentice programme that LDN runs and a passionate believer in giving people an opportunity. We had a vacancy in the department, and LDN helped by shortlisting the candidates. Limia was the perfect candidate for us.

How much did you know about your industry before joining Doccla?

Limia: Very little. However, I feel this was an advantage as it was a fresh start which enabled me to learn more about the industry from scratch.

Meeting new people, being in a new role in which I hadn't had experience before and gathering new skills and experiences along the way were all things that contributed to my understanding of the industry as my apprenticeship progressed.

How have you supported Limia’s development since she started as an apprentice at Doccla?

David: Joe Williams (who has recently left Doccla) managed Limia, as her role was initially in the digital/logistics department. I did however always remain very interested in tracking Limia's development, as Joe reported to me. I oversaw her development, and hopefully gave the correct words of encouragement where needed, and helped in the background.

What have you learned via LDN and the apprenticeship that you’ve been able to implement at Doccla?

Limia: Taking responsibility and being a good communicator have been things that I learned through my apprenticeship. Many projects at LDN made sure I had to communicate with the right stakeholders and be responsible for organising the workflow/timeline. In my new role, I have learnt to take ownership of tasks that are delegated to me and can manage them with effective communication.

What has been the impact on your team since Limia started with Doccla?

David: Limia fitted in from day one, she has this get-up-and-go attitude. She has led from the front, and the proof of her impact is that once she completed her apprenticeship we offered her a full-time job, there was no hesitation from Doccla.

How do you feel now that you have completed the apprenticeship?

Limia: It feels bittersweet. It was a new experience for me which I enjoyed. Being an apprentice and all the experience I got day-to-day in the workplace, as well as the support I got from my skills coach, Steve and all at Doccla made my time as an apprentice one to remember. So it was like waving goodbye to that chapter in my life. However, part of the experience continues as my career has progressed and I have moved onto a new role at Doccla, continuing to work with the same lovely people, still learning new things as the days go by.

What advice would you give to other employers thinking about taking on Apprentices via LDN?

David: Don't think about it, do it. LDN offer support when you take on an apprentice, and once you do you will not be disappointed. At Doccla we are very proud of Limia, and completing her apprenticeship and now on a career path of success.

What advice do you have for anyone considering starting the Business Admin apprenticeship with LDN?

Limia: You may be meeting many new people and learning new things. Therefore, ask questions about things you're unsure of to get to know how things work better. At the same be enthusiastic about your work and don't be afraid to share new ideas and thoughts with your colleagues. You may come across coursework/projects that you have to balance alongside your work life, so really take ownership of your apprenticeship to understand you're meeting the right requirements and do this on your apprenticeship days.

Huge thank you to Limia and David for taking the time to talk to us. We can’t wait to see what the future has in store for Limia!
