June Apprentice of the Month - Joselyn Cole

We are happy to announce the winner of the LDN Apprentice of the Month is Joselyn @ Ipswich Borough Council!

Nominated by LDN Skills Coach - Anton, Joselyn has already made a fantastic impression amongst the Ipswich team after an incredible first 15 weeks of her apprenticeship!

Check out Joselyn's winning Apprentice of the Month nomination along with our other fantastic nominations below!

Joselyn’s Skills Coach:

Joselyn works for the ‘Ipswich Borough Council’ and she has made a massive impression and got off to an amazing flying start. Joselyn started her first day with a willingness to learn new concepts and she is constantly eager and hungry to learn more knowledge.

Joselyn strives for excellence in her work and she demonstrates excellent professionalism in the workplace and within my coaching sessions. She is always punctual for every session planned, takes notes when learning new concepts and in the live group sessions, asks very good probing questions and completes her learning modules in Thinkific, Pluralsight training, and journals as well as her training plan within the timescale agreed.

According to her line manager Holly, Joselyn is very competitive in her job, works extremely hard, gets along very well with her colleagues and customers and persists on stay ahead on closing as many support tickets as possible. Her work performance is outstanding and this is evident in her project work, learning journal write-ups and completing her training plan. I am very happy to nominate Joselyn for the Apprentice of the Month.

Joselyn’s Line Manager:

Energy: Since Joselyn started with us at IBC she has learned so much in a very short amount of time, it feels like Joselyn has always been a part of the team. She brought a new energy to my team, an energy we were very much in need of. With our type of work, this can be incredibly intense being wanted by our customers from all different angles (Via tickets, calls, and walk-ups), but Joselyn just gets on with the job at hand and does this to a very high standard.

Enthusiasm: The enthusiasm Joselyn has shown to her ICT Service Desk Apprenticeship is infectious, each and every day she is happy and committed to her role. Joselyn is always helpful, kind, and supportive, an example of this would be when she is meeting any new users who have come to collect their IT equipment. Joselyn always explains things clearly and answers any questions they might ask.

The enthusiasm to keep our customers engaged and to new things is essential within ICT as this is a forever-changing environment. I have received some lovely feedback regarding Joselyn from our customers, including how lovely she is, how helpful she is and nothing is too much trouble.

Willingness To Learn: When starting a role on the ICT Service Desk there is a huge amount to learn, not only all the systems, hardware, and software that we use within IT but within the entire Council. On the Service Desk you need to know about everything we offer, so we can best support our customers. Joselyn has shown she is not afraid of hard work, her willingness to learn is inspiring.

Joselyn has only been with us for 15 weeks and the amount she has learned and taken onboard is brilliant, she has picked things up so quickly. In her words soaking up all the information like a sponge. Joselyn is confident in speaking to our customers via tickets, on the phone, or in person, picking up a ticket, and being able to investigate the issue from start to resolution with little help from myself.

Ability To Take Feedback: Joselyn is very good with receiving feedback, this generally comes from us, her team, and others in IT. Listening to this and learning is always helping Joselyn improve and widen her knowledge and skills. Joselyn has also shown great skills at taking feedback when speaking to her Skills Coach at LDN. Joselyn had feedback on her project work and she got to work on this straight away, making the changes or tweaks needed.

Propensity To Take Action: Joselyn's propensity to take action is clear to see, she picks up tickets very quickly and makes sure they are actioned or responded to within our SLA targets. If we have had an urgent ticket come in through the system, I can trust Joselyn to action this immediately, she makes this her priority to get done quickly and efficiently. But not only in the workplace, Joselyn also has a high workload with her LDN lessons and project work. Being able to calmly juggle her apprenticeship lessons, apprenticeship project work, her functional skills tests and her role with us is amazing to see. It's a pleasure to have Joselyn on my team. She is already becoming a great asset to the ICT Service Desk.

An example of an outstanding piece of work that has benefited the team: Joselyn has been with us for just over 15 weeks, during this time we had the sad passing of one of our team members. Joselyn has amazed and impressed me with how she has dealt with his hard and sad situation. She has been outstanding in the way she has kept on top of her apprenticeship lessons and project work. But also in the workplace, she has continued the same high level of support our customers expect. This level of commitment to her role in a really difficult time for us was nothing short of a benefit to the ICT department and a credit to herself. I am proud to call myself her line manager.

Our runner-up for this month is Level 4 Corporate Responsibility & Sustainability Apprentice Elishia! Elishia was nominated by LDN Skills Coach, Devina, with feedback provided by the AstraZeneca Team.

Elishia’s Skills Coach:

Elishia is already a rising leader in CR&S in her workplace and on a personal level through her passion for social action and safeguarding the environment. She is meticulous in her approach to learning and isn’t afraid to ask questions or go beyond what her assignments ask of her. Elishia is committed to the apprenticeship process and has made the very far round trip (around 6 hours or so!) to attend LDN Apprenticeship events on numerous occasions. She is brilliant at listening to other people’s perspectives and has made a positive impact within her peer group through her contribution to discussions.

Elishia also actively contributes towards resources to be shared with her peers to support their CR&S journeys. Elishia encapsulates social responsibility and sustainability through her work with corporate charity partners and through her extracurricular work supporting vulnerable young people and children. Although Elishia is at the beginning of her career (and one of my youngest apprentices), she already has a deep sense of responsibility and empathy for others and has been translating this into action!

Elishia’s line manager:

Elishia brings huge amounts of energy into everything she does, which also has a greater impact in terms of energizing those who she works with. Elishia is always in demand – especially with people wanting to hear more about her role, the apprenticeship, and what she is working on. Elishia is a great ambassador for our group and represents us really well. She is not afraid of throwing herself into anything – and everything! Elishia has a real passion for CR&S and brings that to work and her learning and has a great way of collaborating with others and her enthusiasm provides great role modeling of behaviours within the office.

Elishia is not one to sit around – she will always be looking to move her work forward at pace and seeking to help others where her input can add more value. She always reads around the topics and seeks to gain a deep understanding, both to ensure she can do the best job possible and also to maximise her learning.

Here’s what was said about the other fantastic nominees:

Christopher Lynch @ PIC:

Chris is a popular member of the team and everyone on the team enjoys working with him, as he is friendly and approachable. Chris will always go the extra mile as and when required including proactively picking up a task from another member of the team if they need support. The feedback about the quality of Chris’ work and his confidence on calls with our external stakeholders is positive.

Aye Myat Chit @ Close Brothers:

Aye is a star and loved by everyone in the office. She consistently brings a high level of energy and enthusiasm to the workplace, creating a positive and motivating atmosphere for the entire team - she even sometimes brings us homemade food from home! Aye's enthusiasm for her work is reflected in her ability to consistently deliver high-quality results and exceed expectations, this is reflected in her technical lead already allocating her complex production tickets to work on. She is a well-trusted member of the team!
