February Apprentice of the Month - Amy White
We are happy to announce that the winner of the LDN Apprentice of the Month is Amy @ Future Science Group!
Nominated by LDN Skills Coach, Helen Bugler - LDN Class Rep Amy has made a great impact during her time on the programme to help support the Level 3 Publishing Assistant cohort!
We received some incredible feedback from Amy’s line manager Naamah Maundrell, as well as two other brilliant nominees, which you can read below!
Amy’s Skills Coach:
Amy works for Future Science and has been an amazingly, unrelentingly enthusiastic, energetic and positive apprentice since the day she joined!
She has scored a magnificent 2 x 10s from me and her employer this month, summing up her fantastic progression, so that she is now already mentoring a junior colleague!
She has managed busy workloads with a smile on her face and is always keen to learn and resolute in terms of trying to improve on things she finds hardest.
She has been our Class Rep for the last six months and is really active on our Slack channel. She produces great work but is happy and keen to take on board feedback. She loves a good discussion around British Values too!
I think Amy is a great example of making the most of being an apprentice!
Amy’s Line Manager
Energy:
Right from the start Amy has been super positive and has managed to get up to speed with all the tasks expected of her. She has settled into the company and the team very well – creating a great group of friends who appreciate her input and feedback. She is very proactive and has founded a weekly meeting where a group of LDN apprentices meets (who all work at FSG).
In this meeting, they share their experiences and Amy is a positive role model for them as she has been through the process and knows how to get ahead. She never complains when she is given last-minute tasks and is always smiling around the office!
Enthusiasm:
Amy has very quickly taken on responsibility for running our client banners and sending out our third-party emails. This is an essential part of the business (making sure that clients are happy) so it is a testament to her that she has been entrusted with it independently so early on!
Amy was also given responsibility for running our celebration features focusing on Black History Month and International Women’s Day 2022. Her enthusiasm beamed for these tasks as she proactively put together PowerPoint presentations on what we could cover as a company and what our competitors have done in the past. This innovation and enthusiasm were praised amongst senior management! Sometimes we have discussed that she needs to say ‘no’ to things as often she will be the first to volunteer!
Willingness To Learn:
The fact that Amy is independently responsible for client emails, banners, and pages speaks for itself! Amy is very keen to learn and is very efficient when it comes to tasks. She fully understands how important it is to keep clients happy and will also prioritise these tasks. The Sales team was very impressed with how she initially wrote emails and spoke to clients and has since been given this responsibility.
Amy has very quickly got to grips with HubSpot, Google Analytics and Data Studio – all software systems we use on a regular basis.
Ability To Take Feedback:
Amy is very self-conscious and takes real pride in her work! For example, when creating graphics or banners she will always send them out to the wider team to get their feedback and improvements. Particularly when it comes to proofing and the use of our house-style Amy has really worked on her own checklist to make sure she doesn’t miss any mistakes. She is very keen to improve her work and actively seeks out comments from other team members.
Propensity To Take Action:
Amy is a completer finisher and self-starter. Over Christmas, which is one of our quieter months, Amy took the initiative to update templates, timelines, forms, and guidance documents ahead of projects starting up early this year. Not a very glamorous job (or one that was part of Amy’s role) but she was more than happy to take action as she saw that it needed to be done. Amy is often the first member of staff to be in the office and will stay late if tasks are incomplete or need extra attention.
Example of an outstanding piece of work:
I have already listed quite a few including leading our Black History Month and International Women’s Day projects. However, if I was just to list one I would say leading our 10th Birthday Supplement.
This piece will be published in the journal and Amy has seen it right through from the initial stages of commissioning content to the present where the content is in and it is almost ready to be sent to the production team. She has been dedicated to this project even when authors dropped out and timelines had to be altered. The finished product, once printed, will be used throughout the business as a giveaway at our booth when we attend conferences later on in the year.
It has been great to work with Amy and I am continuously impressed with her enthusiasm within the business and how she balances that with LDN Apprenticeship work.
Our runner-up for this month is Level 3 Business Administrator Apprentice Michaela Demetri! Michaela was nominated by LDN Skills Coach, Geeta, with feedback provided by line manager, Cameron Nimmo.
Michaela’s Skills Coach:
During the past 3 months in her role, Michaela has proved herself to be a dedicated team member. She has received positive feedback from her line manager. In Live Sessions and coaching sessions, Michaela is always energetic and enthusiastic, participating and contributing consistently.
Michaela always completes her Litmos work to work to very high standard and this shows that she has put in a lot of effort and care into it. Michaela has already began working on her first project and what she has done so far is fantastic.
Michaela’s line manager:
Michaela has really hit the ground running with our team. Whilst we felt it important to have apprentice roles within our company, we also wanted to ensure we were adding value to our team and Michaela has absolutely done that. She feels part of the team and company already and has shown great flexibility in her first 3 months has worked with every member of the team on a different task or project. It is a fast-paced environment and Michaela has taken to that really well.
Here’s what was said about the final nomination:
Anastasia Boama-Aboagye @ Bloomsbury:
As Anastasia’s line manager I find it difficult to pick out just one example of an outstanding piece of work that Anastasia has completed but I would say that the Marketing and Publicity campaign plan that she created for her interview for her permanent role stands out to me. It was an incredibly accomplished piece of work of a standard that I would expect from someone with years more experience than Anastasia has.
