Top marks for LDN at latest Ofsted monitoring visit

LDN’s latest Ofsted monitoring visit took place at the end of February 2021, with the company receiving the best possible result - Significant Progress.

The two-day assessment was themed around the progress we are making in teaching curriculum that meets the needs of learners in the current climate. There was a particular focus on our pivot to remote learning and the experience that our apprentices have had as a result. Inspectors were also interested in the support we have been providing to apprentices in what has been an unprecedented year.

Ofsted is required to inspect the apprenticeship provision of every provider in the country to ensure that they deliver high quality apprenticeships for learners and employers. The visits are particularly important in the current circumstances, where providers have had to rapidly adapt their business models so that apprentices can continue to learn and develop in spite of the pandemic.

The inspection included an extensive review of teaching, learning and assessment, curriculum planning, and the progress that learners are making on their apprenticeships. The results were extremely positive in all areas, with inspectors recognising the effectiveness of LDN’s rapid pivot to online provision, thoughtful curriculum planning, and industry relevant teaching and assessment.

Other areas of strength include the extensive experience of Skills Coaches and the detailed support they offer to apprentices to develop their knowledge and skills; the constructive and developmental approach taken to giving feedback and the creation of our unique industry advisory boards who help to shape each of our apprenticeships.

Chief Executive Officer, Simon Bozzoli said: “After an incredibly challenging 12 months, this monitoring visit result belongs to the LDN Apprenticeships team and in particular our incredible team of Skills Coaches. We have worked closely with each of our apprentices and their employers to ensure that they continue to have every opportunity to learn and develop and this report confirms that that’s exactly what has happened.”

The results build on LDN’s first provider monitoring visit in January 2019 when we received top marks in all three themes.

Simon added: “At LDN Apprenticeships we believe that young people and remarkable and that they have the potential to achieve remarkable things. Achieving good results when we are inspected by Ofsted means that we’re doing right by our learners and our employers and that is what makes LDN Apprenticeships special. We care deeply about making sure our apprentices are given every opportunity to achieve remarkable things.”

About LDN Apprenticeships

LDN Apprenticeships was founded in 2010 in response to the high levels of youth unemployment in London that were caused by the 2008 financial crash. There were literally millions of young people who had no way of getting their foot in the door at awesome companies.

We saw an opportunity to use apprenticeships as a tool to connect businesses and young people from all backgrounds to one another. Back then, we focused much of our work in the technology sector and exclusively on young people – many of our clients and apprenticeships were designed to address the acute skills shortages in the tech cluster in east London (hence the name, LDN Apprenticeships).

Since then, we’ve moved further afield, opened our apprenticeships up to people of all ages, and used our track record to launch a number of exciting new apprenticeships for specific industries. Most importantly, we are still helping our apprentices and clients to achieve remarkable things.
