March Apprentice of the Month

Janine Ahiagble

We are pleased to announce that the winner of the LDN Apprentice of the Month for March is Janine Ahiagble, who is a part of the LDN Community Engagement Academy and works for London Borough of Barking & Dagenham.

Janine, despite being very busy, has been consistent with her learning. She also “consistently supported her team to achieve their best potential” by helping solve the challenges around AI integration in Quality Monitoring. This has led to her being nominated by her Skills Coach.

Check out all the awesome nominations we received in March as well as Janine’s winning nomination below.

Janine’s Skills Coach:

Since starting the apprenticeship, Janine has consistently been on top of her training plan and evidence pieces, managing these seamlessly despite working in an extremely busy role.

Janine cares very much about the residents she supports and has implemented learning from the apprenticeship into her role to improve quality of service and accessibility.

Janine brings so much positive energy to the Masterclasses and encourages others to share ideas. No matter what obstacles arise, Janine stays resilient and maintains a positive, 'can do' attitude, which is why she is excelling. I know it would mean the world to Janine to be recognised for her hard work and resilience.

Janine’s Line Manager:

How have they improved/impacted the business and the team since they started their apprenticeship?

Janine has consistently supported her team to achieve their best potential. Since joining the course, she has been applying new skills and techniques to enhance her communication style. As a result, she is engaging more effectively with external stakeholders, and the feedback I have received has been very positive.

What three words best describe them?

Janine is a source of solace – the team have had a really challenging few years and they have seen her as a source of solace during these periods.

Janine is apperceptive – the team have had to learn new skills with the introduction of AI and Janine has used her apperceptive skills to help them solve the challenge around AI introduction in Quality Monitoring.

Janine is patient – To be able to get a team to work cohesively you have to be patient as each person has different learning styles. Janine demonstrates that and applies emotional intelligence and the team is in a better place for that.

An example of an outstanding piece of work, project or task they have worked on.

Janine is currently working on a project to enable the front facing side of the council to provide more support for our residents concerning their Welfare & debt. This project will enable residents to seek further support from frontline staff with online applications, which can sometimes be daunting for someone with low literacy skills. The project will also support residents with a vulnerability to ask for help from friends or family.

Here’s what was said about the other brilliant nominees:

Olivia Barson @ Amazon

Liv is a epitome of a model apprentice. She has been getting on really well at Amazon. She has delivered her latest Amazon work campaign through to completion and picked up multiple topics since. She has now become proficient in several areas, including Amazon Music Ads and HOSS (picking up graphics requests outside of the original scope to support other members in the team). Liv’s line manager has fed back she can trust Liv to deliver her work well, on time and to a high standard. Her work so far has been varied, from creative to manual to completing automation inputs in campaigns. Liv has so far completed several strong portfolio pieces and is always an absolute pleasure to mentor.

Karen Milligan @ National Care Group

Karen’s attitude and commitment to the apprenticeship have been phenomenal. Karen has gone from scratch with digital learning to begin building a range of digital learning experiences that supplement National Care’s training workshops. She is continuously improving her digital skills, whether it’s exploring accessibility standards or learning digital creation tools and graphic design. She recently stormed her functional skills in English and Maths too.

She cheerfully has a proactive approach, balancing a range of challenges and always happy to help others or ask for help. Beyond the apprenticeship, she fundraised and made it onto BBC breakfast with her local choir. An inspiration to apprentices of many ages.

David Scanlan @ LeMieux Ltd

David began his LDC ESG Academy apprenticeship under challenging circumstances, managing multiple work projects and struggling to stay on track. However, within the first month, he turned his situation around and has since consistently exceeded expectations. David is ahead in his learning, with concise and insightful journals and portfolio pieces reflecting a high level of CR&S standards. He produces excellent coursework, such as his outstanding piece on Sustainability and Global Responsibility within the Equestrian Sector. David maintains regular communication with his skills coach, demonstrating professionalism, resilience, and a keen interest in ESG aspects of his business.

Lisa Gregory @ Linklaters

Lisa recently transitioned from an admin role into Learning Design, but she rapidly gained new skills and handled ambitious projects. Her line manager has been setting high academic-level targets, and she has exceeded expectations. Her team’s work was nominated for the Learning Technologies awards, and she recently travelled to Brussels to give a presentation on advanced technical skills.

Her portfolio pieces are outstanding, and examples of her work have been shared with the cohort a few times in live sessions. She is ahead of schedule and on track for an early finish very soon.

Maria Hill @ London Borough of Havering

Maria is incredible! Highly organised, dedicated and always striving to be brilliant. Despite taking leave for jury duty, she has stayed on track with her learning and continues to deliver outstanding work of the highest standard. She consistently goes above and beyond in her apprenticeship and her work has a meaningful positive impact in Havering. Maria is committed to pushing for the best outcomes for residents in Havering, she is a valuable asset not just in her organisation but also to the apprenticeship.

Ashley Williams @ Wirral Council

Ash has turned into a quality DLD and goes from strength to strength, pushing his workplace to continuously raise their standards from his own learning. He finds gaps in the council and proposes ways to solve them and bring stakeholders on board to help with implementing and sustaining the new practices. His recent portfolio work showcased his determination to collect key data on the results of a DLD programme by working with I.T. This endeavour is the forgotten aspect of many DLD projects, but Ash made it his mission to show the ROI of his work. He’s pushed himself over 15 months to become a learning professional and he showcases this in our conversations and his work whenever we meet up.

Alfie Brand @ MAPP

I have always been very impressed with Alfie’s overall work ethic and his ability to work autonomously and independently both at MAPP and on his excellent and timely coursework. Alfie, despite being one of the younger learners doing the CR&S qualification, has shown real maturity throughout the year and has earned a huge amount of respect from his manager and peers. His manager commended his helpful, enthusiastic attitude towards the members of the Sustainability team, and he was very impressed with the way he organised the sustainability-themed monthly drinks for the MAPP London office.

Louis Lambert @ Macmillan Learning

Louis has evolved from a BT technician to a highly impressive marketing assistant in publishing in only a few months. Recent feedback from his line manager said, ‘Louis is such a wonderful team member - smart, flexible, proactive.’ He is intensely curious. He has had to overcome nerves and knowledge gaps through trans-Atlantic calls, preparing carefully ahead. He independently solved problems for the website and his campaigns. He recently attended an overseas sales conference, which brought with it personal challenges and business ones, but he threw himself into it with amazing feedback. He remains modest and questioning but is fabulously flying!
